Q1. A book exhibition was held for four days in a school. The number of tickets sold at the counter on the first, second, third and final day was respectively 1094, 1812, 2050 and 2751. Find the total number of tickets sold on all the four days.

Answer:

DaysNo. of Tickets soldThousandsHundredTens
First day=1094=1000+0+94
Second Day=1812=1000+800+12
Third Day=2050=2000+0+50
Fourth Day=2751=2000+700+51
Total=7707=6000+1500+207

∴ The total number of tickets sold on all the four days = 7,707 tickets

Q2. Shekhar is a famous cricket player. He has so far scored 6980 runs in test matches. He wishes to complete 10,000 runs. How many more runs does he need?

Answer:
The run scored by Shekhar = 6980
The score which he wish to make =  10,000 runs
The run he needs to make required score =  10,000 - 6980 = 3020

Q3. In an election, the successful candidate registered 5,77,500 votes and his nearest rival secured 3,48,700 votes. By what margin did the successful candidate win the election?

Answer:
The number of votes secured by the successful candidate = 5,77,500
The number of votes secured by the rival candidate = 3,48,700
The margin by which  the successful candidate won the election = 5,77,500 − 3,48,700 = 2,28,800 votes.

Q4. Kirti bookstore sold books worth Rs 2,85,891 in the first week of June and books worth Rs 4,00,768 in the second week of the month. How much was the sale for the two weeks together? In which week was the sale greater and by how much?

Answer.
The books, Kirti bookstore sold  in the first week of worth Rs  =  2,85,891
The books, Kirti bookstore sold  in the second week of worth Rs =  4,00,768
The sale for the two weeks together Rs =  2,85,891 +  4,00,768 =Rs 6, 86, 659
∴ The sale was greater  in the second week by = Rs 4,00,768 - Rs 2,85,891 =Rs 1,14,877

Q5. Find the difference between the greatest and the least number that can be written using the digits 6, 2, 7, 4, 3 each only once.
Answer:
The greatest number = 76, 432
The least number = 23, 467
The difference between the greatest and the least number = 76, 432 - 23, 467= 52,965.

Q6. A machine, on an average, manufactures 2,825 screws a day. How many screws did it produce in the month of January 2006?

Answer:
The numbers of screws , a machine, on an average, manufactures in a day = 2,825
The numbers of day in month of January 2006 = 31 days
Numbers of screws manufactured in 31 days = 2,825 x 31= 87,575

Q7. A merchant had Rs 78,592 with her. She placed an order for purchasing 40 radio sets at Rs 1200 each. How much money will remain with her after the purchase?
Answer:
Total money, the merchant had = Rs 78,592
The cost of 40 radio sets at Rs 1200= Rs 1200 x 40 = Rs 48, 000
The money will remain with her after the purchase=Rs 78,592- Rs 48, 000 =Rs 30,592.

Q8. A student multiplied 7236 by 65 instead of multiplying by 56. By how much was his answer greater than the correct answer? (Hint: Do you need to do both the multiplications?)
Answer:
Multiplication  in case of wrong answer  = 7236 × 65 = 470340
Multiplication  in case of correct answer = 7236 × 56 = 405216
His wrong answer was greater than the correct answer by = 470340-405216 = 65,124

Q9. To stitch a shirt, 2 m 15 cm cloth is needed. Out of 40 m cloth, how many shirts can be stitched and how much cloth will remain?
(Hint: convert data in cm.)

Answer:
First we have to convert higer units into lower units i.e. from meters to cm.
Total Cloth required to stich one shirt =2m 15cm= 2 x 100 + 15 cm = 215cm
Total lenth of cloth =40 m =40 x 100 = 4000cm
The number of shirt which can be stiched out of 4000cm lingth of cloth= 4000 ÷ 215=18shirt +130cm remaing cloth (Qutient = 18, Remainder = 130)

Q10. Medicine is packed in boxes, each weighting 4 kg 500g. How many such boxes can be loaded in a van which cannot carry beyond 800 kg?
Answer:
The weight of One medicine box = 4 kg 500 g =4 × 1000 + 500 g = 4500 g
Total load which can be loaded in the van = 800kg= 800 × 1000 gm = 800000g
The total number of medicine boxes which the van can carry = 800000 ÷ 4500 = 177.77 boxes = 177 boxes (approximately)

Q11. The distance between the school and the house of a student is 1 km 875 m. Everyday she walks both ways. Find the total distance covered by her in six days.

Answer:
The distance between the school and the house of a student is=1 km 875 m = 1 × 1000 + 875 m = 1875 m
Distance Everyday she walks both ways=1875 × 2 m = 3750 m
∴ Total distance covered by her in six days=3750 × 6 = 22 500 m = 22000 m + 500m = 22km 500 m

Q12. A vessel has 4 litres and 500 ml of curd. In how many glasses, each of 25 ml capacity, can it be filled?

Answer:
Total quantity of curd in the vessel = 4 litres and 500 ml = 4 × 1000 + 500 ml = 4500 ml
The capacity of glass = 25 ml
∴ The number of glasses which can be filled from the given curd = 4500 ÷ 25 ml = 180
